City of Dreams Mediterranean:Partnership  with Marcos Baghdatis

 City of Dreams Mediterranean, Cyprus’ first integrated resort (IR) and the largest in Europe and the wider region, announces a partnership with renowned Cypriot tennis player, Mr. Marcos Baghdatis, to present the Marcos Baghdatis Tennis Academy. With the aim to become a sporting landmark in Cyprus, the Academy will be located in City of Dreams Mediterranean and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2023. 

Utilising the IR’s world-class sporting facilities, the Academy will contribute to establishing sports tourism as an integral part of Cyprus’ tourism portfolio through hosting international-calibre tournaments. Under the direct supervision of Mr. Baghdatis, the Academy will offer tennis coaching of all levels, from beginner to elite professional, and will also bring pickleball to the country. Furthermore, the Academy will strive to promote positive change in the community through physical education while enhancing the overall level of tennis play in Cyprus by focusing on players’ athletic and academic development.

The Marcos Baghdatis Tennis Academy will feature 12 state-of-the-art tennis courts, including a professional-sized centre court, perfectly suited for international tournaments and sporting events. A shop offering professional tennis equipment will be available, as well as a café and changing facilities. Integrated within City of Dreams Mediterranean, the Academy enables students and members convenient access to the IR’s extensive facilities. In addition, players and audiences arriving for regional events will be able to stay at the resort to enjoy its luxurious amenities. 


The Academy coaching team comprises experienced tennis professionals including Ms. Karolina Baghdatis, formerly featured in the top 20 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, and Mr. Marcos Baghdatis himself. Classes will be offered to persons of all skill levels, aged 6 and above. Mr. Baghdatis, as the manager of the tennis academy, will also be available for consultation and advice, while supervising the scheduling and coaching programme and developing specialised tennis programmes.

During the signing ceremony of the partnership agreement, Mr. Grant Johnson, Property General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, stated, “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with one of Cyprus’ finest sportspeople to further enrich the variety of exceptional experiences available at City of Dreams Mediterranean. As an internationally-renowned athlete, Marcos helped put Cyprus on the sporting map with his achievements and has inspired a generation of young Cypriots to take up tennis. Together, we aim to engage more people in the sport while promoting the benefits of physical activity amongst the local community. The partnership further underlines Melco’s contributions towards establishing Cyprus as a global sports tourism destination.” 

Mr. Marcos Baghdatis shared his excitement for this new chapter in his professional life and highlighted the benefits the Academy will bring to Cyprus: “Through this collaboration with City of Dreams Mediterranean, an exciting project with great vision and determination to create world-class tennis facilities with the capacity to host international-standard competitions, we will work tirelessly to raise the level of the sport in Cyprus. We want to produce future champions and help young people achieve their dreams, while promoting health and physical education in Cyprus.”

The Marcos Baghdatis Tennis Academy at City of Dreams Mediterranean is part of City of Dreams Mediterranean’ multifaceted strategy to contribute to the Cyprus economy by supporting the Deputy Ministry of Tourism’s efforts to diversify the country’s tourism product. The Academy will boost sports tourism in the country by hosting international tournaments and attracting professional athletes to the island. The opening of City of Dreams Mediterranean is expected to mark the start of a new era for Cyprus’ tourism industry. Upon completion, the IR will attract thousands of new visitors every year, helping the country address tourism seasonality and establishing the country as a year-round destination for travellers across the globe, as well as creating hundreds of permanent jobs.
