Cyprus FM flies to Tel Aviv on Tuesday

For talks with his Israeli counterpart

Cyprus Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides, will fly on Tuesday, June 23, to Tel Aviv, Israel, where he will hold talks with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi.

The Cyprus News Agency (CNA) has learned that Christodoulides and Ashkenazi had a telephone conversation and that the Cypriot Minister responded positively to an invitation extended to him by his Israeli counterpart to meet in order to discuss bilateral relations between Cyprus and Israel and developments in the broader region of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Due to the general situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the protection measures taken, the meeting will take place at Ben Gurion airport of Tel Aviv, where Christodoulides will fly on Tuesday. After the meeting he will return to Cyprus.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades was going to pay a visit to Israel on June 23 accompanied by Ministers of his government. However, he and the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu agreed during a telephone conversation they had on Thursday to postpone the visit, in view of developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic, and to reschedule it as soon as conditions allow this.
