Cyprus FM supports students abroad - These are the decisions

Cyprus FM in contact with students abroad, decisions in place for support

Cyprus FM Nicos Christodoulides got in contact with Cypriot students’ associations abroad on Saturday with whom he discussed the problems they are faced with amid the pandemic. Decisions were taken to accommodate the students and support them.

A press release by the MFA says that the Minister had a phone conversation with the POFEN Chair and the Heads of the students’ associations in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Volos, Komotini, Ioannina, Irakleio, Rethymno, Bulgaria, Moscow and Czech Republic. He also had a videoconference with the Heads of the students’ associations in the UK.

He was briefed about their problems and repatriation issues, especially for students who are in the vulnerable groups. The Minister expressed the government’s readiness to assist in any way possible, taking into consideration the extraordinary conditions due to the pandemic.

It was decided that as of next Tuesday, March 31 an electronic platform will be set up where all Cypriot citizens, including students, will register to make the contact with them easier. More details will be announced on Tuesday.

From today, the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK is launching a program, under the aegis of the Ministry, for the delivery of food products to the students in the country. For this reason all the students in the UK are asked to register via https://cypriotfederation.org.uk/studentfood/

All students who need to get in touch with a doctor can do so by sending an email at doctors@cypriotfederation.org.uk. In the following days a phone line will be set up for this purpose.

Students who are in need of medication and don’t have access to it in the countries they study in, they can file a request at comunit@mfa.gov.cy, or via (+357) 22 801000. The Cyprus authorities will do their utmost, if requests are justified, to send medicine from Cyprus.

For the students in the UK the Ministry recalls that they have access to the National Health System (NHS) for their medication, following a bilateral agreement between Cyprus and the UK.
