Cyprus ready contribute to the further strengthening of EU-Jordan

N. Christodoulides referred to the special relations between the Republic of Cyprus and Jordan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides expressed the readiness of the Republic "to contribute to the further strengthening of EU-Jordan relations in favor of the stability and prosperity of the country as well as of the wider region", during his intervention in the framework of the EU Association Council -Jordania, held yesterday afternoon in Luxembourg.
 
The Minister announced that this is the 13th meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council, held on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council yesterday, in the presence of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

Speaking at the conference, N. Christodoulides also referred to the special relations between the Republic of Cyprus and Jordan, stressing "Cyprus` commitment to the continuous strengthening of relations between the EU and Jordan".

In this context, he expressed "satisfaction for the EU`s determination to continue its support for Jordan in order to implement its ambitious reform agenda and to manage the consequences of the refugee crisis."

The Foreign Minister also stressed that "Jordan plays an extremely important role for regional stability and is a valuable EU partner to face challenges such as the fight against terrorism and extremism, efforts to resolve the Middle East issue and the crisis in Syria" , noting that "Cyprus will continue to work to strengthen cooperation with this friendly country at bilateral, trilateral and community level."

Cyprus and Greece were the only EU Member States represented at Ministerial level in the meeting, which, as the Foreign Minister stresses, "reflects the close relationship that has developed particularly through the tripartite cooperation between Cyprus and Greece-Jordan" .
