Health Ministry announces eleven new coronavirus cases on 22/8

The total number of cases is now 1,417

The Health Ministry of Cyprus announced on Saturday (21/8) eleven new confirmed coronavirus cases, after 3,446 tests were carried out. The total number of cases is now 1,417.
 

Four cases were detected out of 166 samples tested in the framework of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases. Three cases were detected after carrying out 2,098 tests for passengers and people who have been repatriated and two after testing 491 samples in the framework of the random tests carried out for 10,000 people. Moreover two people were positive out of 544 tested at the private initiative, one of which had recently traveled abroad.
 
As regards the two latter cases, one individual had symptoms since August 15 and had the test done at the private sector on August 21, while the other person, who recently visited Serbia,  had symptoms since August 12th and did the test at the private sector on August 21.
 
The two cases who were detected after tests done randomly concern individuals who gave samples on August 20 in Nicosia.
 
The three cases of passengers concern an individual of Cypriot origin who returned from Mykonos on August 20, without having any symptoms, a foreign national who lives permanently in Cyprus, went on vacation in Athens, returned on August 20 and has symptoms, and a British national who permanently lives in Cyprus, returned to Cyprus from London on August 21 and has no symptoms.
 
As regards the four cases who were detected by tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, one of which at the private initiative, three of them are members of the families of other cases announced during the previous days and the fourth is the member of the family of a case announced today and was detected at the private initiative. This individual had symptoms on August 14 and had the test done at the private sector. This person was not with the woman who came from Sebia.
 
Moreover no cases were detected after carrying out 39 tests of samples taken in the framework of the programme of GP referrals and for checking special groups at public health centres and 108 tests of samples taken by the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals.
 
Two COVID-19 patients are treated at Famagusta General Hospital which is the COVID-19 Reference Hospital and one, who is on a ventilator, at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
