The innovative ‘Larnaka Virtual Museums’ platform of Larnaka Tourism Board (LTB) has been expanded and enriched with the addition of three new museums. The platform allows users to tour various museums of the region in virtual format, now with the addition of the ‘Byzantine Museum of Saint Lazarus’, the ‘Museum of Christian Art – Christoforou Collection’ in Aradippou, and the ‘Bee & Embroidery Museum’ in Kato Drys.
An additional three museums will be added by the end of the year; the ‘Archaeological Museum of the Larnaka District’, the ‘Local Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmith-work, Lefkara’, and the ‘Municipal Museum of Natural History’.

The interactive, 360° tour of Larnaka’s museums features insightful information on selected exhibits. Based on modern technology, this innovative tool offers the opportunity to take a virtual tour and access structured information - such as 3D representations of spaces and exhibits, and bonus audio-visual materials - to further enhance the end-user experience.
The initiative began last year with the creation of virtual tours for six museums in Larnaka region: the ‘Larnaka Historic Archives Museum’; ‘Pierides Museum – Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’; the ‘Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou’; the ‘Craft of Caning Museum – Livadia’; ‘Kyriazis Medical Museum’, and the ‘Environmental Information Centre of Larnaka Mountainous Area’. The platform can be viewed here.
It should be noted that the technology is not designed to replace in-person or guided visits to the museums. Rather, it enhances them through a hybrid experience. Museum curators and tour guides can use the platform to support their tours, or visitors can scan the QR code at the entrance to access the platform on a connected mobile device to use during their visit.
Also significant is the fact that it is the first time the region’s museums have been collectively branded under one, easy-to-navigate platform, and presented in a virtual, 360° format. The project has also been designed to work in tandem with the other projects under the LTB’s ‘Virtual Larnaka’ umbrella, such as the ‘Larnaka Storytelling Statues’ and the ‘Larnaka 360° Cultural Walk’ where visitors can access information on all of Larnaka city’s reference points.
