No new COVID-19 cases in Cyprus on Saturday 

For the first time in two and a half months

No new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Saturday in Cyprus, from a total of 2,414 tests, authorities announced. This is the first time after the first two coronavirus cases were confirmed on March 9th, in the government-controlled areas of the island, that there are no confirmed cases.

Therefore, the total number of individuals that have been affected remains at 927.
 
A press release issued by the Ministry of Health said that according to the data of the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry, no one tested positive to SARS-COV-2 out of 2,414 people tested
 
Three hundred forty-nine of these tests were carried out in the framework of the programme for testing 10,000 employees in hairdressing and barber salons, beauty parlours, tattoo studios and restaurants. One hundred seventy tests were carried out at the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, while 1,007 persons were tested in the framework of the programme for testing 20,000 pupils and employees at schools.
 
Also 463 tests were carried out in the framework of the programme for testing 20,000 employees in the retail sector and construction sites.
 
Thirty tests concerned people who came in contact with already confirmed cases, while 74 tests were carried out in the framework of the programme for testing special groups of the population at Public Health Medical Centres. 
 
Also 161 people were tested privately and 160 tests concerned people who have been repatriated from abroad.
 
Moreover, it is noted until 1500 today five people were treated at Famagusta General Hospital which is the Reference Hospital for COVID-19 cases. One of them is treated at the Increased Care Unit.
 
Two patients treated at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit remain on ventilators, while two other patients are also treated at the same Unit but are not on ventilators, the press release concluded.

Meanwhile, according to data release by the Ministry, until May 21, 923 cases were confirmed and 24 people died, 17 with COVID-19 as underlying cause of death. A total of 594 patients recovered (64.4%), while 32 (3.4%) were treated in Intensive Care Units. The tests carried out (per 100,000 pop) reached 10,874.5
