'Cyprus has lost a friend' says President Anastasiades for late French President Chirac

“Cyprus has lost a friend” after the death of Jacques Chirac, President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades wrote in a book of condolences that was been opened at the French ambassador’s residence in Nicosia, for France’s former President who passed away on 26 September.
 
The President expressed condolences on behalf of himself, the Government and the people of Cyprus over Chirac’s demise noting that “President Chirac was a great politician who served the French people dutifully and with dedication, contributing at the same time to the European and world stability through his politics of unity and peace”.

“Cyprus has lost a friend who has worked assiduously to deepen relations between our countries, playing a decisive role during his twelve-year tenure in strengthening French-Cypriot ties” he added.
 
The President noted as particularly important Jacques Chirac’s principled stance throughout the years and his support to the efforts for a just solution of the Cyprus problem.
 
Earlier the book was signed by the President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris who wrote that Chirac was an “emblematic personality” in Europe with a very positive influence on European affairs.
 
Τhe President of the House praised Chirac’s “charismatic personality” and his important role in France, on the international stage and in European integration.
